The office of Michele Arnaboldi Architetti was founded in Locarno in 1985. Michele Arnaboldi is one of the most important representatives of the “second generation” of the “Ticino School”. He has developed his own architectural language by deepening and refining his rational approaches and his close relationship to landscape. The geometrically clear buildings, often constructed in exposed concrete, emerge as true “places to live” and are developed and built in close relation to the landscape. Volume and development refer to the place and strengthen it. In enclosed outdoor spaces, building and landscape merge into one another. The pre-alpine topography and the Mediterranean climate influence the character of the buildings: steep accesses, terraces, loggias. In the interiors, views and the incidence of light play a creative role, while in the constructive layout the structures are emphasized. The programme of functions is transferred to orderly, partially flowing rooms and the number of materials are deliberately reduced.
